JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Risk and Compliance Officer will lead the bank’s risk management and compliance framework, AML/CFT in accordance with the Anti-Money Laundering/Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Act, 2020 (Act 1044) ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, internal policies, and industry best practices. This role is critical to safeguarding the bank’s financial stability, reputation, and operational integrity and particularly regulatory compliance rating.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, implement, and oversee the bank’s risk management framework, strategies, policies and procedures to identify, measure and mitigate the significant risks of the bank and compliance framework.
- Responsible for the oversight of all aspects of Risk Management guidelines and the banks and specialized deposit-taking institutions act, 2016 (Act 930), as well as strict adherence with policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Identify, asses and monitor financial, operational, repuational and regulatory risks.
- Profile and assess various forms of risks in accordance with the Bank of Ghana Risk Management Guidelines, the AML/CFT&P Act, 2020 (Act 1044) and other relevant regulations and guidelines.
- Conduct regular compliance audits on KYC/CDD and EDD of customers and recommend corrective actions for any breaches.
- Ensure compliance with Bank of Ghana regulations, Anti-Money Laundering (AML) laws, and other statutory requirements.
- Advise the Board and senior management on emerging risks and compliance with the Banks and Specialized Deposit-Taking Institutions Act 2016 (Act 930) and other applicable laws.
- Conduct regular audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews.
- Lead the bank’s Anti-Money laundering (AML) and combating the financing of Terrorism (CFT) initiatives.
- Report risk exposures and deviations from risk appetites with its relevant mitigation strategies to senior management and the board.
- Liaise with regulators, auditors, and external stakeholders on compliance.
- Report regularly to the Board Risk and Audit Committee.
- Ensure timely preparation and submission of risks, compliance and AML/CFT reports and returns to the board, bank of Ghana, the ARB Apex Bank and other relevant regulatory bodies.
- Investigate suspicious activities and transactions and file suspicious transaction reports (STRs) as required, to the FIC.
- Conduct effective risk awareness and compliance training programmes for all staff at least twice every year in consultation with the HR department.
- Supervise branch managers to ensure the evaluation of all generated alerts on the FCM portal and report all suspicious transactions and activities to the financial intelligence centre (FIC) in fulfillment to the BoG & FIC AML/CFT&P guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
- A Master’s degree in Risk Management, Banking, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Law, or related.
- Professional certification in ICA, ACCA, CRA, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 4 years in a leadership role in risk management, compliance, or audit.
- Experience in the banking or financial services sector, preferably rural/community.
- Strong knowledge of Ghanaian banking regulations and compliance standards.
- Good knowledge of the anti-money laundering act AML/CFT&P Act, 2020 (Act 1044), Banks and specialized Deposit-taking institutions 2016 (Act 930) and other relevant compliance guidelines and standards.
- Ability to navigate the FCM portal.
